Seedlip®

The British summertime and an ice-cold gin and tonic go hand in hand, so it quenched our thirst for creativity when Jonathan Knowles asked us to help out with his latest Seedlip creation.

Seedlip is the world’s first distilled non-alcoholic spirit and it can be found in some of London’s best cocktail bars, michelin starred restaurants and luxury hotels. Seedlip say, ‘It’s what to drink, when you’re not drinking’.

Our approach to this was project going to be simple; balance, beauty, subtlety and freshness. The lighting and grading needed to reflect the quality, refinement and premium nature of the product; Tonally, each element should have just the right weight and depth of colour to maintain balance in the composition and finally; all of the elements needed to feel fresh, zingy and sharp. Like any good G&T!

We know that when you’re marketing a Great British artisan drinks product, you also have find the best craftspeople in the photography industry to do the job, that’s exactly why we treated this still life photography like a fine art piece and quite right too!

Jaguar I-Type

This One Eyeland award-winning project was shot by acclaimed automotive photographer, Nigel Harniman to unveil Jaguar Racing’s new electric I-Type 2 Formula E car.

Beautifully graphic strip lighting, dynamic angles and a cool, sultry grade all make for a perfectly balanced set of images. Every facet is subtly lit, helping to show the entire silhouette of the car. The kino lights emphasise all the details and the sweeping lines wrap themselves gently around the bodywork, allowing you to appreciate every inch of this complex machine.

This project is a testament to the collaborative efforts of everybody involved. A perfect example of a photographer, art director and retoucher working in perfect harmony. I think you’ll agree, the results
are outstanding!

Tenderstem®

The creative team at McCann Bristol let their imagination run wild when they were designing the concept for the latest Tenderstem® campaign. Our Tenderstem® hero took to extreme sports to persuade consumers be a little more adventurous with their recipes.

The new advertising campaign included print and digital advertising which was supported with social media and PR activity. Theresa Richards, assistant marketing manager for Tenderstem®, said: “We wanted the inspirational visuals to show that Tenderstem is the ultimate versatile vegetable. “We’re thrilled with the execution of the photography, as it really brings our serving suggestions to life.”

We know that one of Carl’s main aims is to give a sense of vastness to his scenes. Careful lens choices eliminate distortion, avoiding depth of field creates a feeling of distance and the using layering effects helps give depth and lets the landscape recede realistically towards the horizon.

BMW M8

The Green Goblin, Green Goddess and the green green grass of home. All pretty iconic in their own way! But now there’s the Green Goes-like-lighting-and-looks-awsome BMW M8, much better!

Readers of CAR Magazine may already be familiar with this view of the latest BMW concept to come out of Munich, but for those of you who missed it, here they are in all
their glory.

The automotive retouching team at The Bunker worked alongside Xisco Fuster to bring this studio shoot to life, many of the vehicle lighting and studio effects weren’t possible on the day so we stepped in to offer up some help.

We wanted to create a style that evoked the feeling of driving such an amazing machine, so we created a dark and mystical environment that added just the right amount of menace for such an aggressive looking car to live in.

As always, making the most of the design lines and key features of the vehicle was critical, so a lot of care was taken to create symmetry and flowing lines
wherever possible.

Crocs®

Luxury fashion designer Christopher Kane surprised guests at London Fashion Week when he launched his new vision in footwear — a stunning tiger-striped collaboration
with Crocs.

A sighting of these rare species was captured by the renowned still-life photographer Paul Zak and given the star treatment by The Bunker’s retouching team.

The Crocs’ bespoke design featured studded flowers, feather pom-poms and Christopher Kane’s familiar K symbol. Enhancing these features was a key part of the brief because, whilst the intricate detail in the surrounding environment was an integral part of the image, it shouldn’t draw any attention away from the product.

Thanks to Paul’s amazing set-building skills, The Bunker was able to create a unique series of images with beautifully consistent lighting, eye-popping detail and an enchanting colour treatment.

Jaguar I-Pace

For this project, The Bunker teamed up with Nigel Harniman and Spark44 London to create this seductive group of images showing the all-electric Jaguar I-Pace in a Jaguar testing facility.

Precision detailed pixel-work, mood-enhancing grading and colour consistency was the order of the day and along with the minimal environment and white light beaming in through the shutters, the effect it created is jaw-dropping.

It was important that we enhanced the I-Pace’s flowing curves and razor-sharp lines and we did so using subtle grads and gentle tonal changes. Another challenge was getting the vehicles in the two warmer environments to live in the same world as the rest, so a lot of attention was paid to the car to make sure the lighting fell equally along the bodywork and vehicle’s silhouette was defined. Those considerations, along with consistent exposures and black densities, helped to make the change in temperature incidental.

Range Rover SVR

There were a number of challenges facing us when we were building this series of images. Limited track time and typically English weather on the shoot at Silverstone, defined heights and angles set out by Land Rover and wading through the hundreds of tracking shots used to build the action scenes.

For the cornering action shot, a static vehicle was built and retouched at the correct camera height and angle. It was then integrated into a background built using tracking shots from a similar angle, we used the spray and reflections in the wet-down tarmac to retain realism and then adjusted the horizon line and chose the best cloud formations to get the most dynamic composition.

This technique was used with all the action shots and the brief was to give each one a ‘one shot’ feel. It’s this kind of effort, adhering to these style guidelines, that makes certain that every Land Rover image across the brand is consistent.

The approach to the pit garage images was more straightforward in the sense that the lighting was far easier to control and the camera could be locked off, helping us with the overall construction the image. We were then able to concentrate on the minute details and clinical look-and-feel that gave these shots the clarity and vibrancy we were looking for.

Take a look at the video to learn more about the methods we used constructing the front profile.

BBC One of Us

During filming in rural Scotland, renowned commercial photographer, Phil Fisk captured this scene for British drama television series One of Us, made by the BBC and released on Netflix.

When the brief arrived at The Bunker’s studio, it was clear that we were going to be painting a much bigger picture with this composition. Much like the series itself, there was going to be more to this image than meets the eye.

Phil had given us everything we needed to produce a beautifully detailed image where every minute detail held meaning. Our challenge was bring depth and atmosphere to the scene and evoke intrigue and drama using lighting and grading, so we developed a highly cinematographic colour grade that perfectly suited the bleak and lonely location for the series.

This arresting image was a joy to work on as it encapsulates a subtle and complex narrative within the space of a single image. Can you work out whodunnit?

Toyota C-HR

Head of production, Diego, had been excited by the beautiful design lines of the stylish Toyota C-HR since its release and was itching to show them off in our own way.

The C-HR, with its forward-thinking hybrid engine, inspired The Bunker Labs team to create its own series of hybrid images by fusing CGI with photography and injecting a stylish, futuristic grading style.

The team sketched layouts and sourced backplates of cityscapes, ensuring the architecture would further accentuate the C-HR’s design elements and make the vehicle live beautifully in its environment.

After the heights, angles and lenses we finalised and we’d drank ourselves out of coffee, our CGI specialists placed the C-HR into our new scene and got to work on the materials and lighting, using HDRIs from the photography to bring the real world reflections to the car.

Finally, Our retouchers worked their magic and enhanced the beautiful design features of the C-HR even further! They fully integrated the vehicle into its environment and brought the shots to life with a gorgeous colour grade, giving the complete series a real sense of atmosphere.

BBC SS-GB

We worked collaboratively with the team at BBC Worldwide and compiled this image using photography expertly captured by acclaimed advertising photographer,
Todd Antony.

Todd’s expertise was vital as a lot of care and attention was needed to ensure that all the heights and angles were spot on, this was no mean feat considering that all the elements were shot across three different locations, over as many days. These included historic vehicles, set-built assets from the BBC and landscape photography.

Each of these elements were skilfully combined together to form this intricate montage, showing all the series’s main characters in an eerily familiar environment, against one of London’s most famous landmarks – Big Ben.

Mews of Mayfair

Alongside with Lisa Tse Ltd, The Bunker and Marc Rogoff, worked side-by-side to deliver a stunning series of images for Mews of Mayfair’s advertising campaign.

For the Mews of Mayfair’s project, The Bunker joined forces with the fashion, portrait and advertising photographer, Marc Rogoff and the luxury brand communication and development agency, Lisa Tse Ltd to produce these incredibly stylish shots.

Marc Rogoff photographed models Cecile Sinclair and Saville Dorfman in the unique and lavish surroundings of the Mews of Mayfair; a place devoted to romance and glamour located on a picturesque mews leading to the 18th-century courtyard of the stable houses in West London.

The Bunker used style-based colour grading to express the luxurious brand and helping to reflect the sophistication and elegance of the fourth-floor Mews of Mayfair’s private dining room, restaurant and brasserie, lounge and cocktail bar. Beside the beautiful venue, Marc Rogoff's equally beautiful lighting has been used to represent the bright and glamorous side of this dazzling, chic and upmarket dining experience.
